BIG4 Bellarine

BIG4 Bellarine has been an utter labour of love for Park owners Tim & Sophie Bone. Their vision was to create a purpose built holiday park on a site that was in reality, a 30 acre bare paddock with sheep grazing on it.  It took 5 years of wrangling with bureaucracy, lawyers, VCAT, councillors and a handful of objectors before the first sod was even turned and the creation of a holiday park of epic proportions began. Did I mention that they undertook all of this while pregnant with their fourth son and raising their three other young boys aged under 5! BIG4 Bellarine opened to the public in September 2009 and is proving to be a much loved family destination. BIG4 Bellarine encourages families to interact together and children to be free, all while having the room and safety to do so. Holiday mode kicks in for everyone when they drive through the gates.

We recently enjoyed a 2 night stay at the holiday park, and it was just what our little family of 5 needed.  Located an easy 80 minute drive from Melbourne, it’s the perfect destination for a short weekend getaway.

The park’s stats list is impressive: 40 units including 2, 3 and single bedroom layouts. 80 powered camp sites that are so huge in dimensions that most campers can’t believe their luck. New amenity blocks that include family bathrooms, making shower time with the kids so much easier. Two indoor camp kitchen dining areas and even a coffee bar in reception for that morning caffeine fix.  After a friendly check in, we made our way to our 3 bedroom unit.  It was a great size and more importantly it was spotless.  The kids called dibs on their rooms, and then it was off to explore all that the park had to offer.

BIG4 Bellarine in itself is the ultimate family holiday destination! There are so many attractions that keep families coming back time and time again. You’ll find it hard to even leave the park. Highlights include; a heated indoor pool complex with a splash zone and awesome waterslide. Not one – but three giant jumping pillows! A flying fox, an adventure playground, a BMX track, cinema room, indoor toddler playroom, bocce pitch, croquet court, full size football and soccer goals, basketball court, 1.2k walking track, go karts, the list keeps growing!  The go karts were a massive hit with my boys.  They shot off up the road (the roads are super safe) providing us parents a chance to check out the surroundings (with a coffee from reception).

If guests do finally decide to leave the park they will find they are situated smack bang in the middle of some of the Bellarine Peninsula’s finest towns. You are just 5km’s from the surf beaches of Ocean Grove, 6km’s from the fabulous eateries and ocean views of Point Lonsdale, 8km’s from the river mouth at Barwon Heads, 9km from the historic town of Queenscliff and just 10km’s from the quaint township of Drysdale. Not to mention the fab wineries and families attractions that are all within reach. Spoilt for choice!
