The Kids’ Book Club: Helping Children Read And Succeed!

The Kids’ Book Club offers a truly unique way of bringing books and a love of reading into your home, and the homes of families in need. Read on and find out how the kids book club is helping children read and succeed…

The more books in the home, the better the education and
life outcomes for kids.

While studies have repeatedly shown the lifelong benefits of reading to children from an early age, the sad reality is that many families simply can’t afford to buy books. And without the chance to read regularly, young children miss out on the ‘building blocks’ of early literacy – letter sounds and recognition, knowing how to hold a book – needed to start school ready to learn.

Almost 90% of children starting school behind never catch up.

That’s where the Kids’ Book Club comes in. Not only is it a great way to build your child’s library and nurture their love of reading, it also supports United Way’s early literacy programs across Australia.

Working in disadvantaged communities where families are doing it tough, United Way provides children with free monthly books, while their parents receive literacy resources to help build their children’s reading skills. So far, the program has reached more than 5,000 children, with plans to reach thousands more over the next five years.

To help achieve this goal, United Way is inviting Littleone Mag readers and parents to join Kids’ Book Club. For just $25 a month, your child will receive a fantastic new book specially selected by childhood experts to suit their age and stage of development plus a “book buddy” postcard to help develop their awareness of the difference they’re making to another child’s life. Meanwhile, their membership will enable another child to receive a great book each month too.
