Here’s what you need to know about those early months:
1. Time frame
The first trimester spans from week 1 to week 12 of pregnancy, and trust me, it’s a whirlwind of excitement and change.
2. Say hello to hormones
Brace yourself for a cocktail of symptoms that may hit you like a ton of glitter. Expect some fatigue, nausea (aka morning sickness), breast tenderness, and trips to the bathroom that’ll have you feeling like a frequent flyer. These symptoms are totally normal and are a result of your hormones doing the cha-cha in your body.
3. Prenatal party
It’s time to RSVP to prenatal care, mama! Schedule that first prenatal visit with your healthcare provider ASAP. They’ll guide you through this journey, answer your burning questions, and make sure you and your baby are on the right track.
4. Nourish, nourish, nourish
Girl, it’s time to eat like a queen. Your baby’s growing and needs all the good stuff. Load up on colorful fruits, veggies, whole grains, and lean proteins like a boss.
5. You’re building a tiny human
During the first trimester, your little one is busy constructing a tiny human inside you. By the end of this trimester, your baby’s organs, limbs, and nervous system will be well underway to completion.
6. Don’t forget the folic
A daily dose of folic acid is crucial for your baby’s brain and spine development. Aim for at least 400 micrograms of this magic vitamin every day.
7. Move it
Working out during pregnancy can be a great way to stay fit and boost those endorphins. However, check in with your healthcare provider before starting any new exercise regimen to make sure it’s safe for you and your babe.
8. Old habits on hold
Time to bid farewell to some old habits, mama. Kick those nasty smoking, alcohol, and drug habits to the curb. Caffeine should be kept in check, and steer clear of certain foods like raw or undercooked meats, unpasteurised dairy, and deli meats that may be harmful to your little munchkin.
9. Ride the waves of the emotion ocean
Pregnancy can be a wild ride of emotions, and that’s completely normal. You may feel a mix of excitement, anxiety, and overwhelm. Remember, it’s okay to reach out for support. Talk to your healthcare provider or a mental health pro if you need someone to lend an ear.
So, mama, strap in and get ready for an incredible first trimester. Take care of yourself, cherish this beautiful journey, and enjoy every moment as you and your baby grow together. You’ve got this!
