I think we’ll all agree, mama-hood is downright amazing. Becoming a mother is life-changing, the responsibility that comes with motherhood is precious beyond words and the things you learn about yourself as a mother are earth-shaking.
It’s also, at times, overwhelming, unpredictable and stressful. So why not pat yourself on the back by doing MANY nice things for yourself over the next week?
Here are five of our favourite ways ALL mamas should spoil themselves.
1 // Give zero [email protected]*$#s for one day
People swear by the “subtle art of not giving a f#$%” approach to the day-to-day. To put it simply, this way of thinking is about choosing to not give two hoots, no matter what comes your way.
Over the next week, why not say goodbye to mama overwhelm for a day and try it? All you have to do (and we’re not saying it’s easy) is choose not to sweat the small stuff and let things just go over your head for a change. As a mama, it might be hard to do this every day but it will sure feel damn good trying it for 24 hours. Let us know how you go!
2 // Treat yourself
Be it a bunch of flowers, a bottle of your favourite wine, a new piece clothing for winter or booking in for an indulgent spa treatment, don’t wait for your loved ones to realise you are in need of some TLC; spoil yourself because YOU deserve it! Mamas often put everyone else first and forget to spoil themselves. Not this week, ladies. Treat yourself!
3 // Delegate, delegate and delegate some more
Need we say more! Delegate to the kids, your partner, your family and your pets. Ok, so that last one might not work so well but you get the picture – delegate to anyone who you trust and is willing. From getting the kids to do all the chores (ahem), to your partner doing the lion’s share of the cooking over the next week, delegate away whatever you can. Yes, you’re allowed.
4 // Have a night off
Consider arranging a night off. Whether you see a movie solo, head out for dinner with some girlfriends or you actually get to your 8pm yoga class for a change, make it happen.
5 // Grab an extra hour of zzzzz
If there’s one thing that will make you feel human again, it’s an extra hour of sleep. Even if this means going to bed when the baby sleeps, snoozing through Netflix or passing out mid-tidy-up, your body and mind will thank you for it.
