If you have just birthed a babe [or even if you haven’t], this magical healing broth will nourish your goddess body with all of the good things you need.

This broth is full of warming, healing and immune-boosting foods that provide maximum nutrition in an easy-to-digest liquid.
It’s light enough that it can be sipped from a mug, so you get all the goodness even when you don’t have the appetite for a full meal. Make it more substantial by serving with noodles and veggies.
MAGICAL HEALING BROTH
MAKES APPROXIMATELY 3 LITRES (101 FL OZ/ 12 CUPS)
INGREDIENTS
1 onion, skin on, quartered
1 carrot, roughly chopped
1 celery stalk, leaves and all, roughly chopped
50 g (13/4 oz) or thumb-sized piece of fresh ginger, sliced
6 to 8 garlic cloves, peeled
10 g (1/4 oz) dried seaweed (wakame or kelp)
5 to 6 dried shiitake mushrooms (about 10 g/ ¼ oz)
5 or 6 Chinese red (jujube) dates
1 tablespoon goji berries
1 lemongrass stalk, halved lengthways
1 cinnamon stick
3 star anise
1 tablespoon coriander seeds
1 tablespoon white peppercorns
11/2 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon miso paste, to serve
METHOD
- Place all the ingredients in a large pot, cover with 4 litres (135 fl oz/16 cups) water and bring to the boil. Reduce the heat and simmer, covered, for 2 hours.
- Remove from the heat and once cooled, strain through a sieve into another large pot or bowl, then ladle the broth into jars.
- To serve, place a teaspoon of miso paste in a mug. Add a small amount of warm broth, stir until the miso paste is dissolved and then top up the mug with more broth.
- Store the remaining broth in a glass jug in the fridge for up to a week, or freeze for up to 3 months.
NB: If freezing, don’t fill your container all the way to the top as the broth will expand as it’s freezing and will crack the glass if it has nowhere to go.
