“IMPLANTATION CAN EVEN CAUSE MILD CRAMPING WHICH CAN BE MISTAKEN FOR PERIOD CRAMPS.”

1. You have light bleeding with mild cramps

It takes 10 to 14 days from conception for the fertilised egg to get implanted in the lining of the uterus. And during implantation, there may be some bleeding from light spotting to something similar to the first day of your period.

But because implantation bleeding happens around the same time as the expected date for your next period, you might mistake it for the beginning of your period. Implantation can even cause mild cramping which can be mistaken for period cramps.

2. Your boobs are sore and swollen

Most hormonal changes happen around Week 7, but estrogen levels start to rise much sooner.

Estrogen is responsible for maintaining the lining of the uterus as well as increasing blood flow and enlarges the milk ducts to prepare the breasts for milk production.

This is why your breasts might be tender.

3. You notice changes in your daily bathroom habits

Hormonal changes during the first few weeks of pregnancy can have unexpected effects on a woman’s body.

In fact, constipation is one of the most common health complaints during pregnancy.

Plus, you may pee more than usual.

4. You’re feeling sick and vomiting

Almost 70% of all preggers women have morning sickness, especially during the first trimester. And we tend to experience severe nausea and vomiting as soon as we wake up, which is why it is called morning sickness.

But interestingly, during the first few weeks of pregnancy, you may experience nausea and vomiting at any time of the day.

5. You’re tired AF all. day. long.

Pregnant mamas will feel tired AF in the later stages due to carrying around the extra weight of our bebes. But it is common for women to experience constant fatigue – yep, even during their first trimester.

This is caused by an increased level of progesterone, which can make you feel more tired and even drowsy.

You can experience it as early as 1 week after conception, so if you notice that you suddenly get fatigued quite easily, it could be because you are pregnant.

So… how Accurate are home Pregnancy Tests?

Most home pregnancy test kits are 99% accurate. They work by detecting the presence of the pregnancy hormone hCG in the urine.

Some are more sensitive and can recognise even small amounts of hCG. This is why it is possible to get a false positive.

So it’s a good idea to test again if you do not get your period within a few days. And visit your GP for a pregnancy blood test. This can give you a definite result within 11 days of conception.

Once you have your confirmed positive, you can use a due date calculator to find out your due date as well as when you will enter your second and third trimesters.
