Don’t have time for ‘me-time’? All it takes is 30 minutes

In Features, Life, Motherhood, Stories, Wellness by Nicole Fuge

Mama, it’s time to make some me-time. Because you are a multi-tasking and multi-talented wonder woman. You are a mum!

By Natalie Bascur

There is juggling small children, working, maintaining friendships and spending time with your partner. It can seem impossible to find time for yourself. And let me tell you, you’re not alone.

By the way, if your idea of ‘me-time’ is being able to pee alone, then you really need to read on.

Tip: Put your phone on silent for the half hour ‘me-time’ slots so you’re not distracted by notifications and alerts. Spending half an hour looking at your phone can feel like only five minutes have passed.

“ALL IT TAKES IS AT LEAST 30 MINS OF MAMA ‘ME-TIME’ EVERY DAY (YES, EVERY DAY!) AND YOU WILL FEEL LIKE A WHOLE NEW PERSON!”

1. GET OUTDOORS

Turn up the beats and go for a walk outdoors. The combo of fresh air, cool tunes and sun will give you the boost of energy that you need.

2. ENJOY YOUR OWN COMPANY

Head to your local for breakfast and sit down to a meal with only yourself and the paper as company, or go to the movies on your own and eat all of the popcorn without needing to share!

3. MAKE TIME

Wake up half an hour earlier and treat yourself to breakfast in bed or go for a dip in the ocean or pool. Or if you’re a night owl, stay up half an hour after everyone else has gone to sleep and soak in a hot bubble bath with a sheet mask on. Bliss.

4. MEDITATE

Try yoga or meditation to really take your stress levels down a notch. Even just listening to relaxing music with the door locked and your eyes closed can be beneficial.

5. LET YOUR CREATIVE JUICES FLOW

Is there a painting class or ceramics workshop you’ve had your eye on but never had the time? Perhaps a cooking class is more your style. Anything you generally put on the backburner because of a lack of time can be incorporated into your mama ‘me-time’.

6. JOIN A TEAM

If you’re more of an extrovert who only gets energised surrounded by others, find a sports team to join.

7. TAKE A NAP

Never underestimate the pleasure of a good power nap. Sometimes on crazy weeks the best mama ‘me-time’ can be simply having the chance to rest without interruption. Sounds like pure heaven.
