Springfree trampoline set up in backyard with outdoor setting

Must-have additions for the ultimate summer entertaining area

In Features, Spaces, Stories, What's New by Nicole Fuge

When the warm weather rolls around it means one thing: The number of days spent basking in sun and playing outdoors go up. So, mamas, you can say bye-bye to little ones suffering from cabin fever (and you racking your brain for more indoor-friendly activities to entertain them).

Welcome to summer! Now that you can make the most of the outdoors, you’ll want to ensure your backyard is set up to cover off all bases. By this we mean – relaxing, activity and after-dark fun (um, we mean alfresco wine time, clearly!).

So how does one create the ultimate summer entertaining area? We’re glad you asked because it’s not difficult at all. With a few additions and tweaks, you can create your very own backyard oasis.

Here are three ideas on what you could set up to ensure there’s something for everyone.

1 // Kids’ activity zone

Whether you want your little ones to get their daily dose of activity or you’re after some ideas to keep them entertained in the backyard so they’re not constantly under your feet, setting up an activity zone will just keep on giving.

There are plenty of safe activities that you can set up that mean you can have one eye on the kids as they safely play and the other on something of your choosing. Step in the Springfree Trampoline that has a spring-free design, hidden frame and the FlexiNet enclosure so your little one is safe when they’re busy bouncing. Say hello to that page turner you haven’t been able to finish or – as boring as it might sound – a few minutes to hang out the washing in peace.

And don’t let that mama guilt creep in, either. As we previously mentioned in another article, with most countries reporting that less than 40 per cent of children are taking part in levels of physical exercise it’s so important that we encourage our kiddos to embrace a healthy and active lifestyle – what could be more fun (and convenient!) than seeing your kids enjoy being active in your own backyard using the Springfree Trampoline?!

Things you’ll need:

  • Springfree Trampoline
  • Basketball hoop (as they are a great addition the trampoline)
  • As many balls and outdoor games as you wish
  • Built-in storage to house games/activities (so there are no excuses for going indoors)
2 // Chilled nook for fam bam downtime

Everyone needs an area on the deck (or paving or however your space is set up) that doubles for family alfresco dinners or as a place for you to checkout reading in the sun – we guarantee you it will become your favourite place to relax. Most importantly, this nook allows you to get some downtime while you feel like you are retreating away as the kids jump the day away on the trampoline.

Things you’ll need:

  • Outdoor setting for dining
  • BBQ
  • Outdoor rug, flowers and other homeware to make it feel as special as your indoor areas
  • Outdoor fridge (so you can keep a bottle of something chilled at arm’s length)
  • Top tip: You might want to consider some plants to zone some of the area off and provide a little privacy
3 // After-dark entertainment area

Mum relaxing on trampoline with childrenTo make the most of the gorgeous warm weather, it makes sense to set up the backyard as an evening, kid-friendly area, too. Hello, outdoor movie projector! And if you’ve set up the activity zone, with only a few extra additions – like a movie projector – you’re pretty much good to go.

Simply add oodles of cushions, pillows and outdoor blankets to your Springfree Trampoline. While you and papa relax in the chilled nook, the kids will be entertained (Note well: out of your hair) for hours. Oh and it also creates a cute at-home area for date night if you can’t find someone to mind the kids one night.

Things you’ll need:

  • Movie projector
  • Springfree Trampoline loaded with cushions as the seating
  • Fairy lights for some ambience
  • Popcorn optional
