Ever feel like you’re carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders? You’re not alone. It’s time to talk about the invisible workforce that is you. The modern mother. And the silent load that many of us carry each day.

Picture this: you wake up to the sound of your little one’s cries, change their nappy, prepare breakfast, pack lunches, and get everyone ready for the day ahead. Phew! And that’s just the beginning.
The house needs tidying, the laundry needs doing, and you’ve got to plan dinner too. Sound familiar? All these tasks are part of the invisible load that mamas bear – a load that often goes unnoticed and unacknowledged.
“By acknowledging and addressing the invisible workforce and load we carry, we can create a more supportive and understanding environment for ourselves and fellow mamas.”
In our busy lives, we sometimes forget to give ourselves credit for the hard work we do. But let’s pause for a moment, take a deep breath, and remind ourselves that we are warriors. We are the heart and soul of our families, and we’re doing an incredible job at balancing it all.
The invisible workforce of motherhood involves not just physical tasks but emotional labour as well.
We’re the ones our children run to when they’re upset, the ones who offer a listening ear to our partners, and the ones who manage family relationships.
This emotional labour can be draining, but it’s essential in maintaining the harmony and wellbeing of our families.
So how can we, as mamas, start to lighten this invisible load? Here are a few tips:
1. Communicate your needs
Speak up, lovely! Share your thoughts and feelings with your partner or support network. Let them know when you need help, and don’t be afraid to delegate tasks.
2. Prioritise self-care
You can’t pour from an empty cup, mama. Make time for yourself, whether it’s a quiet walk, a relaxing bath, or a night out with friends. Remember, self-care isn’t selfish – it’s necessary.
3. Embrace the power of ‘no’
Be mindful of your limits and learn to say ‘no’ when necessary. It’s okay to set boundaries and protect your time and energy.
4. Celebrate your achievements
Take a moment each day to recognise the incredible work you do. Give yourself a pat on the back – you deserve it!
By acknowledging and addressing the invisible workforce and load we carry, we can create a more supportive and understanding environment for ourselves and fellow mamas. Let’s lift each other up, empower one another, and remind each other that we are strong, capable, and absolutely amazing.
So, to all you phenomenal mamas out there, let’s start giving voice to the invisible, sharing our stories, and embracing the strength that lies within. Together, we can redefine motherhood, and make the invisible workforce truly visible.
