When it comes to swimsuit shopping for bigger busts, you’d be forgiven for thinking the options are somewhat boring. Think again. We’d like to welcome Lilly & Lime! They are making BIKINI DREAMS come true for our boobier sisters.
It was a conversation over a few glasses of bubbly at a friend’s hen weekend that sparked a business idea for besties Emma-Jane Hughes and Ashleigh Hill. Sitting poolside, the bigger-busted beauties were disappointed that while their smaller-busted friends had an endless selection of swimsuits for the picking, Em and Ash were left trying to come up with desperate solutions. “I once bought a size 18 top so the cupsize would fit, and then had to cut the clasp off and tie it,” recalls Em.
It was while celebrating their friend’s pending nuptials that the pair declared enough was enough. “We decided there was no reason why we had to be wearing these swimsuits by the pool when all the others had great bikinis on,” Em explains. And so Lilly & Lime – swimwear for a D-cup and up – was born.
Not prepared for their product to be less than perfect, the pair created countless styles, samples and prototypes to ensure their bikinis would do what they claimed – provide the shape, support and freedom that bustier women have craved forever.
Lilly & Lime launched in 2016 with three bikini tops and three bottoms, to an eager market. “The reaction has been great,” Em says. “We have a really high rate of repeat business from our customers, and we have expanded the range every season to offer new styles.”
That’s not to say launching the business was easy-going. “Ash and I both had young children when we started the business, so we really had to juggle and make it work. To be h onest, we’re still juggling and hustling today.”
The boss-mamas don’t plan on slowing down though – they’ve just launched Lilly & Me, a collection of girls’ swimwear, for mamas who want to match their swimsuits with their mini-me. Love!
Em says the drive behind the brand is simple: “We have always wanted to empower women and young girls rather than body-shame them, and be inclusive for all bigger-busted women. We want our customers to feel confident and comfortable in their swimwear so it enables them to do whatever they want.” Go, mamas, go!
