Home tour: Kara and Kyal’s gender-neutral nursery

In Features, Spaces, Stories, Style by Nicole Fuge

After appearing on The Block, not once but twice, Kyal and Kara Demmrich have made quite the name for themselves in the home renovation space. And we are teensy bit obsessed with their interiors that perfectly blend coastal with a touch of bohemian.

Kyal and Kara were kind enough to share with us a sneak peek inside their gorgeous, gender-neutral nursery for their newest little bundle of joy, Vada.

Timeless furniture

“Invest in some quality, gender-neutral furniture pieces that will last. That way, they can be passed on to the next child as needed,” Kara explains. “For example, choose a changing table that can be transitioned to a standard chest of drawers as the little one grows. Plus, you’ll have plenty of storage for all the important stuff – like nappies and wipes!”

Neutral colours

“It’s a great idea to start with a neutral colour palette to begin with. This will help to create a soothing and harmonious space for your little one,” she advises. “As your baby/child grows, add more of their personality with their own artwork, favourite colours and toys.”

Cosy corners

“Create a cosy corner to sit and feed or read to your little one with a comfortable chair, foot stool and reading light,” Kara says.

Open storage

“Use open shelves to display decorative toys that not only look beautiful, but will entertain the little one as they grow,” she explains.
