There’s a wave of cinematic excitement washing over us, and it’s all about the new Barbie movie. With Margot Robbie stepping into Barbie’s stylish shoes, this film is strutting its way straight into the heart of pop culture. But amidst the buzz, there’s a question lingering in our minds – is this dollhouse drama suited for our tiny ones?

Let’s get into the pink-tastic nitty-gritty of it all.

“IT [THE MOVIE] DARES TO VENTURE INTO THE VAST TERRITORIES OF GENDER IDENTITY AND BODY IMAGE. AND LET’S FACE IT, THOSE ARE SUBJECTS THAT WE OFTEN GRAPPLE WITH AS ADULTS, LET ALONE KIDDOS.”

The plot thickens

The film takes our perfect pink princess from the comfort of her Barbieland and throws her into our real, sometimes not-so-perfect world. It’s a comedic whirlwind journey of self-discovery where Barbie learns that it’s okay to stray from perfection and embrace her uniqueness.

More than that, it dares to venture into the vast territories of gender identity and body image. And let’s face it, those are subjects that we often grapple with as adults, let alone kiddos. Our blonde bombshell, Barbie, in this flick is shown as a strong, independent woman who shatters conventional beauty norms.

Keeping it clean at PG13?

Now let’s talk about that rating – PG-13. That suggests we grown-ups should be on our toes if our little ones are under 13. The reason? A bit of that racy humor and a sprinkle of adult language.

So, is it kiddo-approved? Well, sweet mamas, that’s a decision that lies in your capable hands. The factors you’d want to mull over are your child’s age. Their maturity level. Understanding of the cheeky humour. And their comfort with such content.

If you’re caught in a whirl of indecision, remember you can always give the movie a watch yourself before making the call.

A few other aspects worth considering
  1. Complex themes: The movie tackles weighty issues like gender identity and body image – subjects that might be too adult for some kids.
  2. Humour: There’s humor aplenty, and some of it dips its toes into suggestive territories. If you’re not on board with your little ones getting a dose of this, you might want to hold off on the movie for a while.
  3. Tone: While the Barbie movie dances in the comedy genre, it does get serious at times. If you’re on the hunt for a simple, carefree kiddie movie, this one might not fit the bill.

The Barbie movie is a fun ride, filled with entertainment, sprinkled with vital themes, and dusted with a touch of adult humor. Yet, as with anything our precious littles consume, it’s essential to be mindful of its content.

Remember, if in doubt, a parental sneak peek is never a bad idea. Trust your instincts.
