If you’re feeling a bit bleh, I’m here to tell you about the power of morning rituals and why you need one.

Yep, that’s right, there are many things you can do to shift your energy in the morning, and one of those things is to start a morning ritual.

So if you are waking up after fourth or fifth snooze of the alarm, feeling tired AF with no vision and purpose, you are telling the universe that you don’t give a sh*t, that your standards are low and that you can’t get out of your own way. The universe will not deliver abundance to someone who has a mindset like this!

I’ve found that the more I create structure, rituals and routines in my life, the more often I find money on the ground, I get a car spot open up for me, I have opportunities presented to me, and I know it’s because I choose to show up for myself and therefore people show up in my life exactly where they’re meant to.

“ONCE YOU STOP NEGOTIATING WITH YOURSELF AND START SHOWING UP FOR YOURSELF YOU ARE TELLING THE UNIVERSE, ‘I’VE GOT THIS’ AND ‘YOU CAN GIVE ME MORE’, BECAUSE THE UNIVERSE ONLY GIVES YOU MORE OF WHAT YOU CAN HANDLE.”

It’s about feeling inspired

The old me used to feel that I needed eight hours sleep, but in reality, I needed to feel inspired from within. Think about it, are you ever tired when you know something exciting is around the corner? NO! You’d jump out of bed if you knew a clothing delivery was at your front door right? Now, every single morning, I choose to wake up as early as possible, between 4.30-5am. Over time this has become easier and easier, in fact now my body clock wakes me up around 4.20am most days, even when I’ve stayed up late.

So here is what my morning ritual looks like, but you can build this up over time and add to this list, remembering that all of this will become a part of life with time. Just like brushing your teeth, when you know the benefits and do it every day, it isn’t a chore!

1. Before you go to sleep…

Put a 500ml bottle of filtered water next to your bed.

2. Wake up as early as possible

Do not hit snooze, make a conscious decision the night before not to, or have your phone charging across the room so you have to get up to turn it off, then Brush Tongue Scrape (if you can bear it), brush your teeth, and drink your water.

3. Meditate for 5-20 minutes

Great apps to use include Calm and Insight Timer. I personally use the TM method, where I meditate in silence alongside a mantra. You could also light incense, sage or candle at this time or draw a card from a favourited card deck. If you’re stuck, I teach mediation techniques inside my membership portal.

4. Read your Mission Statement

A mission statement is something that gives you a clear roadmap into your future. It highlights the essence of who you are, draws out of you what you bring to this world, reminds you of your worth, gives you purpose and direction, and it is the most powerful part of my morning ritual. I read it in the present tense, as if it’s already happened. Sometimes, I will read this up to 10 times a day, but always every morning, while I drink my black coffee or bone broth.

5. Move your body

Motion creates emotion. Do a couple of push-ups, a plank, stretching or some yoga. Go for a walk, make love! Think about what you can be grateful for as you move your body. That motion will create emotion within your body. It will make you feel positive and happy.

6. Have a cold shower

There are so many benefits around cold showers, but the one I want to highlight for you is mental resilience. We talk ourselves out of so many things in life, we live in fear around moving out of our comfort zones and so by facing the fear of getting under a running cold shower, you are proving to yourself daily that you are stronger and more resilient than you think!

Now you’re feeling fresh AF

I spend 1-1.5 hours on my daily ritual, depending on the length of my meditation and exercise. I also don’t look at my phone until I’ve completed my rituals.

Plus, if I get time in the morning, what I also love to do now is pack my daughter’s lunch and start breakfast before the kids wake up. I do this because I find that I am able to be a much more present and loving mother when I’m not in a flustered state. I’m one of these chronic multi-taskers who loves, loves, loves to do five things at once. If I could do squats, drink coffee, write a blog, and do a post to Instagram all at once…I would!
