The Upward Spiral: How to unleash your best self in 4 simple steps

If you’re feeling blah and in a funk, there is a way to help lever yourself out of it. It’s called the upward spiral and we’re all about it.

As women, we often find ourselves on a rollercoaster ride of emotions in this beautifully chaotic journey we call motherhood. It’s full of incredible highs and some truly testing lows.

But what if we told you there was a way to harness this emotional whirlwind? A way to steer our lives, not away from the chaos, but through it, and emerge stronger, wiser, happier on the other side? That, darling, is the magic of the Upward Spiral. And it’s super simple to do.

An Upward Spiral, simply put, is a positive feedback loop of actions and reactions. It’s about consciously making a series of positive choices for yourself, which create positive experiences, which fuel further positive choices. You see where we’re going with this, right?

Here’s how to put it into practice…

1. Recognise

The first step is to recognise where you are. Is it a downward spiral day or an upward one? Acknowledging your feelings and where you are in your journey is empowering and the first crucial step to steering yourself towards that upward trajectory.

2. Choose for you, boo

Start small. Choose one positive action – it could be as simple as eating your breakkie in the sun, watching a show you’ve been wanting to see, going for a walk or attending a yoga class. Something  Just. For. You. These small actions create a rush of feel-good and start an upward spiral.

3. Positive Reinforcement

Here’s the beautiful part, each positive action generates a positive reaction. Maybe that walk made you feel a little calmer, a little more centered. This positive feeling can inspire another positive action, like calling a friend or cooking a nutritious meal. And voila, you’re on your upward spiral!

4. Share the Joy

The more joy you create, the more joy you have to share. This is where the magic truly happens. As you climb your upward spiral, you’ll find that you’re not just lifting yourself, you’re lifting those around you, too.

And don’t worry, babe, the Upward Spiral isn’t about striving for perfection or pushing down the less-pretty emotions. We’re all human. It’s about embracing our needs and taking conscious steps towards our highest good.
