#BOSSMAMA: When Two Besties Created the Ultimate Handsfree Breast Pump

A desire to create a breast pump that was as effective as it was affordable is what led these besties to create the MAMMA pump.

For many new mamas, the first experience they have with a breast pump is at the hospital after birthing bub. Those pumps can be a little industrial, big and – let’s be honest – a bit intimidating.

That was certainly the experience of Sara Ebadi and Anna Jamison, whose bubs both arrived a few weeks early.

“After coming home from the hospital, we started to research what pumps were available on the market. We were shocked at how expensive the pumps were if you wanted a high-performing one,” recalls Sara.

The friends decided something needed to change – and the MAMMA double electric breast pump was born.

The Sydney-based pair (who have Scandinavian backgrounds and credit the simplicity of their design to this) researched, trialled and perfected their double pump, ensuring that MAMMA was something new mums would treasure. The powerhouses even created a pump-and-bra combo to allow mums to go hands-free, offering the freedom to work, exercise, or kick back on the couch with a well-earned cuppa.

“I love my Mamma pump, and having the bra and being able to do it hands-free is so convenient! I am able to express and read to my kids.”

Through creating a kickass electric double pump, Sara and Anna also wanted to empower partners by making it more feasible for them to bottle-feed expressed milk. “We wanted to give partners the amazing feeling of feeding and bonding with their bubs, while also giving mums the freedom and flexibility to combine motherhood, breastfeeding and living life,” says Anna.

And they’ve clearly succeeded. The MAMMA pump is loved by mama influencers @notsomumsy, @these.sonny.days@hipstermum, and @reviejane, to name just a few. It has also scored an incredible 4.9 on consumer review site productreview.com.au, with mums describing the pump as a ‘lifesaver’.

But the supermamas haven’t stopped there, partnering with Forever Projects, an Australian charity dedicated to helping Tanzanian families, providing formula and food to bebes in need. “Helping save lives through our business is something we feel very proud of,” says Sara. We’re pumped!
